Language Connections Organization ( a non-profit organization, based in Israel ) was founded by Gal Springman and Judy Cohen
The New Palestinian Abraham Center for Languages came into existence in 2003 in order to reorient courses to answer the needs of a population more and more forsaken by the world. Increasing poverty and travel restrictions made it seem a nearly useless luxury to learn another language, and little by little, most of the 20-some staff members at the school found their hands empty. A new kind of communication ( Youth Communications )needed to be developed, using the computer and Internet, with English as the common language between students whose mother tongues were either Arabic or Hebrew. Today, people of all ages, illiterate or university students, young or mature adults, find the door open at the Abraham Center, where they are welcome to study a language or to develop computer skills. Learning new skills is an important source of satisfaction when you can’t travel beyond the narrow limits of the Gaza Strip. The school’s two computers do work overtime !! |
